The Rise Of Planet Of The Apes :: Review

I was invited by a friend to watch “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” -the big budget prequel to the 1968 classic. Since i enjoyed the 2001 "Planet Of The Apes", i thought it would be good to check this one out.

According to the official website, the film is a "reality-based cautionary tale, a science fiction/science fact blend, where man's own experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy".

I must say, this version of Planet of the Apes has the most sense in comparison to the previous movies. I will not be surprised if the story is based on actual fact because it is possible. We owe the chimps alot as they are scientifically used for testing.

Ok, that's another topic. The movie is pretty good. The CGI and effects are pretty cool (but not as elaborate as Avatar).

The main cast of the movie is Caeser, a genetically enhanced ape. His mother (named Bright Eyes) was tested for a cure for Alzheimer's disease while she was pregnant. Something went wrong and the mother died. All of the apes treated with the same dose were also executed.

The scientist didn't want to kill the baby ape and brought it home for a couple of days. One thing led to another, he decided to keep it as a pet (while still testing him). Caeser grew up showing extraordinary abilities.

The story line was OK to me, but one thing just don't make sense... If the scientists were monitoring Bright Eyes thoroughly (they even monitor the change of color in her eyes!) how can they not notice she was pregnant?

The lab has MRI and all sorts of hi-tech equipment and it is just impossible for them not to realize she was pregnant.

The rest of the story was just OK. A little predictable but still entertaining.

Total score : ★ (Out of 5)

Batman

My initial plan was to go home and proceed with my quest of cleaning my house. But somehow it ended with a nice dinner-and-movie hang out.

I wanted to watch "Jouney to the centre of the earth" whereas Fedo wanted to go for "Zohan". And there's also other must-see movies such as "The Mummy".

At the end, we settled with the majority vote -Batman; The Dark Knight.

I'm not a certified movie critic, but i'll write my point of view (and refer to relevant source!)

Throughout the 2.3 hours movie, i could not help but wonder why does Batman talk like the offspring of Clint Eastwood and a grizzly bear? It's just weird and annoying!

Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne, has a smooth voice but once he puts the cape on, the transformation of his vocal chords is just as dramatic as his costume change.

I must say, my main attraction to the movie was Heath Ledger. I wanted to see him carrying such a dramatic and crazy character. His death and all the stories behind it has somewhat generated interest to the movie.

His acting was superb. He has made the character religiously evil even I got scared! I wonder how did he (Joker) get the scars coz there was like 3 different stories!

I'll give it 3 stars (Out of 5) for the movie and 4.5 stars for Heath Ledger.

Scary Joker : Heath Ledger
