Airasia, Flying Malaysia

To celebrate Merdeka, AirAsia did something very meaningful.
The team decided to fulfil the dreams of 56 underprivileged children from East Malaysia to be in Kuala Lumpur and witness the Merdeka Day celebrations up-close in Dataran Merdeka.
The 56 children—symbolic to Malaysia’s 56th Merdeka—come from various homes in Sabah and Sarawak. The participating homes are Rumah Anak Yatim Darul Bakti, Rumah Anak Yatim Tambunan and San Damiano Hostel (Boys & Girls) in Sabah and Kompleks Kewajipan Laila Taib in Sarawak.
This was the first experience traveling by plane for a majority of the children. The children, ranging from 10 – 17 years old, and accompanied by 8 guardians were flown by AirAsia to Kuala Lumpur from Kota Kinabalu on flight AK5113 and Kuching on AK5211. On board both flights, the children were entertained by AirAsia’s multi-talented flight attendants, also known as the AirAsia Fun Team.
This dream are made possible with the support of our passionate CEO, Aireen Omar.

Despite her extremely busy schedule, she was on the tarmac to personally welcome the children.

Special thanks to our friends at Tune Hotels, the sponsor of accommodation in Kuala Lumpur for all the children and Skybus, the sponsor of bus transportation in Kuala Lumpur.

The children enjoyed the parade. We were happy to see them enjoying their brand new experience.

Great to know that the kids enjoyed their first flight experience with AirAsia. And I see that all of you stayed in Tune Hotels. That's a great location near shopping malls and MRT as well the Petronas Towers.
